EMC Medical Instruments is a company that offers pain relief solutions to patients suffering from pain caused by inflammatory responses induced by disease or surgery (tissue damage). Cooling reliefs pain by reducing tissue swelling and heat build-up, but also slows down the inflammatory response. Reduction of inflammation limits secondary tissue damage and speeds up the healing proces. I did a follow-up of the total bioheat extraction from tissue (the knee) in set time frame with the EMC Continous-Flow prototype. The extracted heat could be correlated to specific patient parameters. The experimental data was fitted in a predictive model that could be used for optimalisation of the EMC Continous-Flow prototype.
August 2008 --- September 2008
Hasselt University brought the world-renowned Science Tunnel, an interactive, multimedia exhibition created by the Max Planck Society, to the town of Hasselt. In twelve different themes, breakthrough scientific research is showed to the general public. After a short training, I, as one of the guides, provided additional scientific background to the different modules in the exhibition.
