Recherches ciblées actuellement dans le domaine photovoltaïque de 3ème géneration, impliquant l'utilisation de colorants organiques sans métaux lourds. Mise en place d'un modèle théorique autorisant une étude plus complète des différents paramètres clés qui définissent le fonctionnement d'une cellule de 3ème génération. / The technology to convert sunlight into electric current by employing organic photovoltaic systems has been an issue of an intensive research over the last two decades and nowadays receives an increasing industrial interest. Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) provide a technically and economically credible alternative to the present well-known p-n junction or thin film photovoltaic devices. In this project, we review the basic concepts of DSSCs and we set up a theoretical approach aiming at optimizing DSSC's properties. This project deals with the several of the controversial and emerging issues in this field, as well.

    I am officially included in the High-Level Technical Experts database. Technical Experts are responsible for the assessment of project applications submitted under the Eurostars Programme. The EUREKA Secretariat will invite experts to confirm their availability prior to each assessment period. During each call for funding, Experts will be selected according to the evaluation requirements of the EUREKA Secretariat. The selection is dependent on the availability of Technical Experts and whether their professional capacities sufficiently match the technical and market areas of the projects. EUREKA is an intergovernmental network launched in 1985, to support market-oriented R&D and innovation projects by industry, research centres and universities across all technological sectors. It is composed of 40 members, including the European Community. With its flexible and decentralised network, EUREKA offers project partners rapid access to skills and expertise across Europe and national public and private funding schemes.     La technologie de conversion de la lumière en courant électrique à l'aide de systèmes photovoltaïques organiques (que l'on classe dans la catégorie de 3ème génération) et sans métaux lourds fait actuellement l'objet de recherches intenses. En effet, cet intérêt se justifie par le fait que cette dernière génération de système photovoltaïque fournit une alternative technologique et économique crédible aux deux autres générations (jonction n-p, couches minces, ...) de cellule. Ce projet vise à mettre en place une procédure théorique afin d'évaluer, de prédire et d'améliorer les qualités des colorants organiques utilisées dans les cellules. Plus précisément, nous avons travaillé sur deux échelles de modélisation (microscopique et macroscopique) associées à deux niveaux de théories [QM (Méchanique Quantique), TDDFT (Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory) en particulier et MD (qui regroupe l'ensemble des outils basé sur la théorie de la Dynamique Moleculaire)]. Cette approche mixte permet ainsi une étude plus complète des différents paramètres clés qui définissent le fonctionnement d'une cellule de 3ème génération. Les détails des auteurs est donné en annexe au profil./ Because solar energy is the most abundant renewable energy resource, the dear connection between human activity and the global warming have strengthened the interest in the photovoltaic field. My project was in direct line with this general challenge, as its objective aims at deeply investigating and understanding the operation principles of Metal-Free Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (MF-DSSC), and at exploring their relative potential to design innovative and efficient photovoltaic devices. To this end, we propose to develop original and integrated hybrid quantum and molecular mechanics (QM & MD) schemes as well as molecular dynamics procedures for the modeling of the different key- parameters involved in the MF-DSSC operating cycle.     After my PhD, I got a post-doctoral position at the “Univeristat Politècnica de Catalunya” (UPC, Barcelona, Spain) under the supervision of the Prof. Carlos Aleman, in the Innovation in Materials and Molecular Engineering (IMEM) group which is devoted to the engineering of complex structures for nanobiological applications and the design of supramolecular structures center. The new nano-edifices are characterized following a bottom- up strategy: from the quantum description of the atom to the finite size approaches to simulate macroscopic properties of materials. In this group I set up new strategies for force field (FF) parametrization for molecular mechanics and molecular dynamics (MM and MD) and, in general, I studied condensed-phase systems using QM-based FFs within the MM and MD framework. Most of my research was focused on (i) the optimal QM-based parameterization of force fields for biological sensors elaborated from conducting polymers; (ii) we did apply our QM-based FF to the investigation of the sensing abilities for the calix[4]arene- and crown-ether- substituted poly(thiophene)s; and (iii) the study of the interactions between the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and a poly(thiophene)s-based sensors.

    During my PhD thesis granted by the “Fonds pour la Recherche dans l’Industrie et l’Agriculture” (FRIA) at University of Namur, under the supervision of Prof. Eric Perpète, I was very involved in the elaboration of a theoretical procedure allowing a fast prediction of the colour of carbonyl derivated dyes. Ab initio quantum chemistry approaches, and in particular the DFT and the TDDFT, have been used in order to take into account the solvation, the solid-state or the pH effects on the position of the absorption band of maximal intensity in the UV/VIS region of the electromagnetic spectrum. The methodology has also been extended with success to the triphenylmethane, the diazo- and the triazene chromophores. Efforts were also dedicated to the comparison between two solvation models, i. e. the polarizable continuum model (PCM) and the continuum model developed at the University of Nancy (NCM), in collaboration with Prof. X. Assfeld (University of Nancy, France) within the framework of a two- year project granted by the “Commissariat Général aux Relations Internationales” (CGRI), the FNRS and the “Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique” (CNRS).
