I am a PhD student at the Faculty of Bioengineering at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. My work concerns the identification of key taste compounds in Belgian endive, their quantification, and the assessment of their variation across different varieties and agricultural parameters. My main tool is high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled to a variety of detectors such as UV, ELSD and mass spectrometry. My knowledge of chromatography goes from sample preparation and method development to instrument refurbishment and maintenance. I am highly skilled in HPLC and GC troubleshooting, both at the hardware and at the separation level. Besides this, I am a specialist in multivariate data analysis, reproducible research, design of experiments and data visualization. My scientific interests span over a wide range, including many fields such as informatics, metabolomics, molecular biology, biochemistry, analytical chemistry and biochemistry, food chemistry, organic chemistry and microbiology. While my education has been focused mainly on the last three subjects, my passion for science led me to autonomously explore other fields. My best skill is to be able to develop an inter-disciplinary approach to the research I am working on.
