Experiences

Current Experience

  • External Consultant - Researcher
    Since November 2013
I am connected to the Department of Networking & Governance of i-BEC and I am responsible for ensuring compliance with GEO's (Group on Earth Observations) implementation plan and standards for Earth Observation Data and the GEOSS Portal as i-BEC's GEO Principal Alternate. At the same time I am involved in the implementation of European Programmes in my areas of expertise.

  • Freelance Consultant
    Since January 2010
As a Freelance Consultant I have various data analysis projects both commercial and academic, (statistical and biological) involving 2nd phase clinical trials for Greek institutes, analysing data and providing them with guidance, and I am involved in various on-going academic collaborations at the same time. I utilised a large array of web based bioinformatics and network tools, Cytoscape, STRING, Galaxy, GO databases etc. to provide my informed opinion. I was also involved in Tissue Microarray (TMA) data analysis and took part in the creation of an ongoing large database/ in-house management workflow system.

Past Experience

  • BioStatistician Greece
    November 2014 --- May 2016

Participation in the implementation of the European project (ERDF) (88981) Promoting the use of low geothermal fields by developing operational directives and green energy solutions on entrepreneurship. Action D3.4.1 / Statistical processing and scientific evaluation of biological data. 20/11/2014  -  31/05/2016

Edinburgh). As the Bioinformatician of the company, I was responsible for client data analysis. I worked in large 3rd phase clinical trial data analysis projects for our Pharmaceutical clients, and was involved in various ongoing academic collaborations at the same time. As IT director was in charge of monitoring the ongoing IT needs of the company. I worked under strict SOPs and I dealt with all sorts of networking and computer systems issues and liaised with the appropriate support teams. I wrote new SOPs when needed and did reviews of processes and procedures to ensure the constant flow, security and storage of data.

  • Sandwich placement
    January 1999 --- January 2000
I was involved in the new and exciting area of microarrays, performing the research and development for the genpakArray21 microarraying robot, optimising the working parameters, testing and adapting protocols and helping in the making of the user guide and manual for it. This experience gave me a sound practical and theoretical knowledge of the microarraying field, which I later put in excellent use in my MPhil and PhD research. These 12 months provided me with an excellent training in general laboratory tasks and equipment according to GLP. The company won the Sussex Business Awards 2000 in the Innovation Award category for the most effective innovative product, for the work done in the making and production of the genpakArray21 microarraying robot.
