As a Commercial Legal Counsel I was part of the pre-sales activities and I regularly functioned within multidisciplinary teams (together with a bid manager, system engineer and account manager) that negotiate the contracts. As a business partner of the other departments, clients and suppliers, I provided professional support and advice to the global services division with a particular emphasis on commercial issues arising in rather complex transactions, that more often than not transcended the Benelux region. Furthermore I adviced the business on developments or changes to relevant laws and their impact on the business and ensured the pragmatic translation of these developments in the bespoke or standard customer and/or supplier terms and organisational processes and policies In comparison to the more traditional profile of a commercial in-house counsel,I was not only required to intervene and assist on legal issues during contract negotiations, but I also ensured that contracts were concluded on the basis of a sound commercial approach and that the terms were acceptable to the business. ******* In the Benelux, BT is the leading communication partner for multinationals, government agencies, and large demanding local enterprises – for whom it focuses on network and IT-driven solutions.
