I am Tijs Van den Berghe, a very motivated biologic engineer who graduated in 2013 with distinction and I am looking for a very challenging job to start my career. I have a lot of experience with working in labs because of my education and mostly because of my master thesis where I had to work in the lab every day for one year. During my thesis I learned a lot about the latest techniques in biotechnology, so now I am familiar with most of the techniques and the machines that are being used in most biotechnological labs. Also during my thesis I had to work with organisms (zebra fish) who had been manipulated and knock-out mutants which I created myself. Also we had to work with cell cultures. I studied abroad at the university of Copenhagen 2 years ago. I also have a lot of experience working with microorganism and their fermentations. I have made a project on this and created a mini brewery that worked with microorganism that had been manipulated to give better results. The selection of the strains and the genetic manipulation to optimize our brewing results were done solely by me, and gave very good results. I have a lot of experience in the biotechnological field and I am very motivated to start working so that I can exploit my skills at their maximum level.
November 2013 --- July 2014
Preparing a Phd project (literature study and start up experiments) with professor Leybaert from the University of Ghent at the universital hospital. This was a Phd project on transport channels between cells and the effect of cryopreservation on the lethality of the cell via apoptosis. Project halted due to lack of funds.
August 2012 --- September 2013
I have worked one year as research assistant and quality control engineer at the center for medical genetics in Ghent. As research engineer I was carrying out experiments that involved qPCR, RT-PCR, PCR, flow cytometry, quantification, normal and fluorescent microscopy, probe design, gene and mutation analysis, knock out mutants and live organisms. As quality control engineer I was responsible for controlling and updating all existing protocols in the research department, as well as implementing new protocols. Also, I was responsible for the calibration of the equipment in the research department.
