Experiences

Current Experience

  • Patent Information Professional
    Since April 2017
In a team with other patent information professionals, patent attorneys and formality officers, I support the IP creation and IP value creation based on the inkjet printer innovations generated by Océ's R&D department. My responsibilities include: Providing novelty assessments, freedom to operate searches and competitor intelligence in the field of chemical inventions such as printing ink technologies.

Past Experience

  • Intellectual Property and Life-Science Consultant Nijmegen, Netherlands
    August 2015 --- April 2016

PMME is an engineering agency which is specialised in the field of (bio)medical materials, with a focus on material formulations and properties.
It provides both technical expertise and project management for the research and development phase of medical device products.

As Intellectual Property and Life-science Consultant, I provide IP expertise and biological knowledge in assistance of the ongoing customer projects and collaborations.

  • Junior Patent Counsel
    April 2014 --- March 2015
I collaborated in a team of Patent Counsels, General Counsels and PVP specialists who were responsible for the protection of the Intellectual Property of the Vegetable Seed Business Unit of Bayer CropScience - Nunhems Netherlands B.V. These included crop traits, crop varieties, breeding and selection technologies and seed treatment and coating technologies. At Bayer, I drafted and filed several notices of opposition against competitor patents, under the supervision of European patent attorneys

  • Senior Patent Engineer, Trainee European Patent Attorney
    May 2007 --- March 2014
At FujiFilm, I was responsible for the development and management of the strategic patent portfolio on recombinant collagen-like protein technology and its applications in medical device products. I supported the generation of new IP, by streamlining the communication between the inventors and external patent attorneys and drafting claims and patent descriptions. I successfully guided filed patent applications toward grant, by monitoring the examination process and drafting responses to official communications of patent offices. As certified IP searcher, I was responsible for the exploratory “state of the art” searches, novelty searches, freedom to operate searches, invalidation and infringement searches in the life-science field. Using advanced web searching and patent statistics, I provided technical, business and competitor intelligence.

  • Senior Scientist
    September 1998 --- February 2007
At Devgen I was responsible for the development of bioassays for “proof of principle” research and high throughput screening. I performed experiments that successfully showed the “proof of principle” of the RNA interference by feeding technology of Devgen and contributed to several patentable inventions and scientific publications. I established a rearing protocol and RNA interference bioassay using an artificial feeding medium, for a specific, difficult to culture, sap sucking insect pest in rice. As Senior Scientist, I optimized Devgen’s, C. elegans based, “Drinking-assay” to allow duplicate screening of chemical compounds versus triplicate, successfully leading to a reduction of costs and increase of throughput. As a line-manager, I coached and supervised a group consisting of three scientists and three laboratory technicians. Furthermore I planned, managed and prepared the final data reports, of several compound and target screening campaigns for external research partners and internal research projects.

  • PhD student
    February 1996 --- July 1998
PhD project "toporegulation of cell division in Escherichia coli", at the Molecular Cytology department. Discontinued to pursuit my ambitions in the private (biotech) sector.

  • Trainee - Molecular Microbiology department - Faculty of Biology
    January 1994 --- December 1994
Relation FTSY protein and signal recognition particle in translation and translocation of proteins in E. coli

  • Trainee - Department of Molecular Immunology
    September 1991 --- May 1992
"Cloning and sequencing rtx-B and C genes of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae"
