  • Wetenschappelijk medewerker
    Since November 2015
✔ Worked on two projects in the field of Biofuels at INRA, Versailles, France. ✔ The projects were about discovery of traits and quantitative loci and genes controlling biomass quality and its interaction with drought through the use of different types of populations in different environments, years, locations and drought stress levels. This was combined with the use of millions of sequencing data and statistical modeling tools. ✔ Presented the research results in conferences, meetings and workshops. ✔ Led collaboration with other partners and collaborators.

Past Experience

  • Research & Teaching Assistant
    July 2014 --- June 2015
✔ I was teaching from 2-3 Labs per week for the SOCR100 class "General Crops", in the soil and crop Sciences department in CSU. ✔ I participated in making the quizzes and exam questions and grading them. ✔ Moreover, I led the students through their team projects. ✔ I taught two lectures: 1) plant breeding and genetics for drought tolerance 2) Breeding and genetics of biofuels from biomass crops. ✔ This class covered a wide range of plant physiology, morphology, anatomy, breeding, and genetics topics. ✔ For teaching this class I was nominated for the Shepardson Graduate Student Teaching Award from the college of Agriculture at Colorado State University, USA by my Department and my students (on March 2015).

  • Director of Graduate Student Affiras & Vice President of Graduate Student Council (GSC)
    May 2013 --- April 2015
✔ promoted and expanded the Graduate Student Affairs Department throughout the year. ✔ Been in constant communication with the Graduate Student Council regarding activities of ASCSU (Student government), and vice versa. ✔ Ensured that Graduate Students are effectively represented at all levels of ASCSU, in all three branches. ✔ Worked to fill all Graduate Student spots on committees across the University in conjunction with the Department of Academics. ✔ Assisted the Graduate Student Council to recruit members to serve on multiple committees across campus, including Faculty Council Subcommittees. ✔ Worked in conjunction with the Graduate Student Council, the Vice-Provost for Graduate Affairs and the Director of the CSU Health Network toward finding affordable health insurance options for Graduate Students. ✔ Worked with the Graduate Student Council and Housing/Dining Services to lobby for Graduate Students to be able to obtain the faculty/staff meal plan rate in CSU dining halls. ✔ Provided opportunities throughout all areas of ASCSU to be represented by Graduate Students. ✔ Collaborated with Departments in ASCSU to expand on advising support for Directors. ✔ Assisted students in obtaining information about Graduate School and transitioning into graduate programs.

  • Graduate Student Summer Intern
    May 2014 --- May 2014
✔ I quote from the internship review of my direct supervisor during the internship (Dr. Bill Berzonsky: Senior Wheat Breeder, Bayer Research Station, Crop Science Division): ✔ "Wahid participated with me on hybrid wheat breeding activities. I was impressed with Wahid’s professionalism and attention to detail while participating in hybrid wheat breeding activities. He frequently offered constructive suggestions and seemed comfortable working both in the field and in the office to enter and summarize data. The work instructions he prepared were thorough and detailed, and they represented an impressive level of research, especially considering the relatively short length of the internship. The instructions should provide an excellent guide to establishing a method of evaluating male pollen production".

  • Assistant Lecturer
    January 2011 --- December 2011
✔ Crop Science Department, College of Agriculture, Cairo University, Egypt: Spring 2011: Assistant lecturer for two classes in the program of International Agriculture (both courses taught in English): 1. Introduction to crop science -The course covered a wide range of subjects such as plant classification, taxonomy, botany, machinery, and principles of plant breeding and genetics. 2. Production of field crops -The course covered subjects such as fertilization, irrigation, crop management, pest and disease control, and cropping systems.

  • Graduate Student Intern
    May 2010 --- October 2010
✔ During my internship at University of Florida’s Agronomy Department and Genetics institute I wrote a report about my research activities during the internship, which involved two main experiments: A. The objective of the first experiment was to investigate the genetic and environmental effects on enzymatic saccharification parameters (amount of glucose release from dry matter after enzymatic hydrolysis, cellulose digestibility percentage and klason lignin concentration in the sorghum stover cell walls) in sorghum genotypes. B. The objective of the second experiment was to study the genetic basis of water use efficiency as a function of root architecture. I used ICRISAT’s unique and expansive lysimetric system to obtain detailed data on water extraction, transpiration efficiency, and water use efficiency as a function of root architecture in a diverse set of sorghums. I then used this information, along with field observations to measure water-use related traits in a RIL populations derived from two parents with contrasting drought responses and root architectures to map QTL associated with drought stress.

  • Research and Teaching Assistant
    December 2006 --- August 2008
✔ I was teaching the labs for three classes within the program of International Agriculture (classes taught in English): 1. Introduction to crop science. 2. Production of field crops. 3. New advances in plant breeding. ✔ For my teaching excellency I was awarded the "Best Teaching Assistant Award" from the Crop Science department in the Spring of 2008 in a big celebration at Cairo University. ✔ During my work as a teaching assistant I was also involved in a research project towards a master thesis. I developed the project proposal and finished one year of field work selfing and crossing corn inbred lines. The title of my thesis was " The relationship between molecular diversity and hybrid vigor among maize inbred lines".

  • Business Developer &Technical Sales Engineer
    January 2005 --- December 2006
During my work as an Agricultural sales Engineer and business developer at Technogreen Group (Agriculture company in the fields of seeds, fertilizers and irrigation) in Cairo, Egypt I was involved in multiple activities such as: • Developing Sales and Marketing strategies • Participating in Agricultural expositions/fairs as a representative for the company. • Technical support for farmers. • Conducting seed testing experiments. • Conducting fertilizers applications tests. • Designing marketing materials for the new products. • Translating imported products info materials from English to Arabic.

  • Undergraduate Student Intern
    May 2003 --- August 2003
✔ During this internship I was involved in an intensive training to learn all the different steps of the hybrid corn seed breeding and production. ✔ At the end of the internship I was given a certificate and was evaluated with 98 %.
