Past Experience

  • Intern
    September 2014 --- January 2015
5-month internship as part of my masters thesis. Main tasks and responsibilities: -Planning and organising work in the biochemistry laboratory; -Carrying out biochemical analyses on specimens of body fluids and tissues using High Performance Liquid Chromatography, -Enzyme activity assays, DNA extraction from whole human blood, protein quantization with Bradford assay, preparation of buffer solutions; -HPLC column care and maintenance; -Identifying the cause of and resolving any poor analytical performance problems.

  • Research internship
    October 2013 --- September 2014
12-month training at the Experimental Retrovirology and Non-Human Primate Model division of the National AIDS Center, Istituto Superiore di Sanità. I was responsible for overseeing the experimental research in one of the laboratories of the division, where I investigated the pathogenesis of HIV infections and I performed molecular characterization of viral variants in non-human primate models. I had the chance to work in a biosafety level 3, where I handled HIV-1 pseudoviruses and performed molecular and cellular biology techniques.

  • Intern
    March 2012 --- October 2012
8-month internship as part of my bachelor thesis. Main tasks and responsibilities: -Testing human samples such as blood, tissue, urine for enzymes and other compounds (purine, pyrimidine and amino acids) using HPLC; -Enzyme activity assays, DNA extraction from whole human blood, protein quantization with Bradford assay, preparation of buffer solutions; -HPLC column care and maintenance; -Identifying the cause of and resolving any poor analytical performance problems.
