Marco has a technical background in (bio)chemistry and molecular biology (Ph.D.). Combining this technical background and business acumen, he is able to translate science into application and business opportunities. Marco has gained experience with: A) Pharmaceutical industry: Liposomal drug delivery to the brain. B) Development and production of Food Ingredients: Fermentation derived products, Fermentative flavours, Yeast derived products, Enzyme production, Starter Cultures, Pre- and Pro-biotics, Functional Food ingredients. C) Life Science: Biomolecules (RNA, DNA, LNA and peptides), Strain improvement (cloning/mutagenesis), Microarrays, DNA based diagnostics. D) General: Technology transfer (from R&D to Factory Implementation), Project Management, Biological safety (GMO), writing and evaluating grants (H2020 and Eureka). Marco de Boer’s expertise is mainly in: - Leading and structuring R&D teams, coaching. - Drug formulation, liposomes, brain diseases. - The development of food ingredient production processes (Yeast, Enzymes, Cultures), with emphasis on innovation processes, project management, technology transfer (factory implementation) and registration. - The Biomolecule business (RNA, DNA, LNA and peptides) in the areas of production, application and sales (manufacturing, QC, customer support). Personality Marco de Boer is known as target- and result driven, and his managerial style is communicative and structured. He is a “people manager”, and endorses a will to succeed with shared targets as a basis. Specialties: Liposomes, Drug Delivery, Biotechnology, molecular biology, food, microbiology, fermentation. He can contribute his expertise and be involved in the following areas: - Project Management (Target setting, Risk analysis, Planning, Communication). - Biological safety. - Subsidy applications. - Registration of (GM-based) food ingredients (EFSA). - Process optimization.
Since April 2015
NTrans Technologies has been founded in 2015 as a spin-off from the Hubrecht Intitute (KNAW) by Prof. Niels Geijsen and Dr. Marco de Boer. NTrans Technologies has developed a proprietary technology that enables intracellular delivery of proteins and oligonucleotides into primary cells (stem cells).
Interim Manager and Innovation Consultant
Since April 2010
SOP Consultancy offers project management and consultancy for international organizations and start-ups in Biotechnology, Food and Life Science. Its office is operated from the Amsterdam area, close to Schiphol Airport and the main Dutch Biotech clusters. SOP Consultancy believes in target driven innovation. This means that the innovation process is based on committing to customer requirement. To ensure efficient innovation processes, a link between R&D, production and business is essential. SOP Consultancy is dedicated to help customers in making this connection and driving their innovation process to valorization.

Head of the Department Bioprocessing
September 2005 --- April 2010
I am currently heading the Department Bioprocessing at the R&D center of Kerry in Almere. The Bioprocessing Department improves and develops fermentation processes for the Yeast production site (Menstrie, Scotland), the Enzyme production site (Cork Ireland) and the Cultures production site (Rochester, USA). I am responsible for managing the Bioprocessing projects, maintaining contacts with the production sites and with Universities and Research Companies. For the Enzyme production site I am involved in registration of GM based enzymes at the European Food Safety Authority, EFSA.
November 2000 --- September 2005
Isogen Life Science was a biotech company in Maarssen. This company has manufactured and sold products for molecular biology research. I was responsible for R&D and for the Biomolecules Production Facility. I headed product development, the development and implementation of new techniques for quality control and improvement of the intellectual portfolio of the company. Furthermore, it was my responsibility to improve the interaction of the Production Facility with Customer Support and Sales Force.
