I am an accredited Master Black Belt with a record of successfully leading improvement projects. I have demonstrated skills in facilitation, change management and project management gained within pharmaceutical research and development.
Business Performance and Quality Leader
Since September 2014
Consultant and Owner
March 2014 --- August 2014
Application of Lean and SIx Sigma principles to help businesses improve their effectiveness, particularly non-traditional applications of Lean and identify ways that Lean philosophy help foster innovation.
Associate Director Business Improvement, Master Black Belt
March 2012 --- February 2014
Responsible for leading continuous improvement initiatives across key business areas and fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration and courageous leadership. • Applied Lean Sigma principles and approaches to drug projects to secure and accelerate delivery • Coached and mentored GreenBelts to deliver their own improvement projects • Facilitated learning reviews to extract lessons that can be applied to future projects • Facilitated events to encourage creativity and innovation
Lean Sigma Black Belt
January 2010 --- March 2012
Led improvement projects within one business unit of R&D, including projects to systematize competitive intelligence, develop new ways of working for drug discovery projects and resolve conflicting resource prioritization between company divisions. Worked directly with drug projects in Kaizen events and led multiple events across R&D sites. In each case, this resulted in improved teamwork and accelerated more secure project plans.
Team Leader Computational Chemistry
September 2004 --- January 2010
Led a team of computational chemists in their support of drug discovery projects.Ensured that team members were matched to projects appropriately. Led and project-managed drug discovery projects in the lead generation phase. Led a Lean Sigma improvement projejct to improve cycle times in the lead generation phase.
Associate Principal Research Scientist
April 2001 --- August 2004
Used computational chemistry and drug design tools to support lead generation and lead optimization drug discovery projects. Took the opportunity to work in Sweden at AstraZencea Mölndal for one year on an international assignment.
Senior Computational Chemist
October 1998 --- April 2001
Wrote software for structure-based design and virtual screening to allow automated searching for potential drugs in databases of chemical structures. Led a small group of software developers and collaborated with scientists using it to improve performance and include new features. Developed a method to characterize the quality of a binding mode generated by docking software. Marketed and supported the company's software on site visits to collaborators and potential customers in France, Scandinavia and USA.
senior research associate
October 1990 --- September 1998
Developed algorithms and wrote software to find similarities and generate alignments between ostensibly dissimilar chemical structures. The programs developed were used by industrial collaborators for drug discovery research. Coached and mentored doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows and was deputy group leader.
PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from King's College London, U. of London in 1990
