I am a Biotechnology expert with good communication & organization skills. I have been working 10 years in Agricultural Biotechnology, so called "Green biotech". I started my career as a project leader in the molecular analysis lab at Bayer Cropscience, after which I worked as a research scientist at BASF Plant Science (CropDesign) where I was part of a project team with the goal to enhance seed yield in rice. Currently I work at Ablynx, a biopharmaceutical company, as project planner, I manage the budget and resources for multiple projects. I am experienced in the field of innovation and communication management (public relations). I enjoy working in international and cross-functional teams and I have experience with project management.

Current Experience

  • Project Planner Ghent, Belgium
    Since June 2016
The Project Planner is responsible for translating the strategic plan into a cross-functional operational plan and ensuring critical milestones are delivered timely and within budget through providing operational leadership and excellence. As a member of the R&D portfolio management team, I take care of project governance and project planning of one flagship project which is entering the commercialization phase and multiple smaller (technological and preclinical) projects.

Past Experience

  • Scientist integrated Crop Trait Knowledge
    May 2012 --- May 2016

As Research Expert Team member of the Rice Yield Project within BASF Plant Science I am highly involved in research project management. The goal of the project is to increase seed yield in hybrid rice.

My key responsibilities and tasks are:
    - Study the transfer of important agronomic traits, such as seed yield, biomass production, abiotic stress tolerance and usage of inputs like water and nutrients, between different crops
    - Integrate genome, transcriptome, phenome, metabolome & molecular datasets
    - Assist in the planning and tracking of constructs within the gene-impact evaluation platform
    - Prepare scientific reports
    - Work in cross-functional and international teams, provide the link between planning, statistics, other scientists and plant physiologists

I am also involved in innovation and communication management within the company:
    - Drive innovation by organizing workshops, brainstorm sessions and develop innovative ideas into project proposals
    - Represent BASF Plant Science - CropDesign in external talks or assist guided visits to greenhouse and lab facilities

  • Department Head Dispatching Centre
    September 2011 --- May 2012

  • Project Leader - R&D Analytical Lab
    November 2005 --- August 2011

The site in Ghent is a major hub for R&D at Bayer CropScience. To support the different projects in Research and Development, the R&D Analytical Lab develops and performs a broad array of molecular tests and is responsible for the production of Reference Materials.

As a Project Leader I was responsible to select the appropriate set of analyses and validate the molecular test results performed on samples from rice, Arabidopsis, wheat, corn and tobacco. I reported to the internal customers within agreed timelines and budget. Key technologies used were: high-throughput DNA extractions, PCR, Real-Time PCR, Fluidigm and Capillary Electrophoresis.

I managed the workload of 4 lab technicians and was highly involved in recruitment of new personnel, goal setting and evaluations.

I was a key person in the implementation of a quality management system and a LIMS system. The latter turned out to be a 5 year international project which started from selecting the appropriate LIMS provider, suggest necessary adaptations and eventually train users.

  • Team leader Microbiology lab & Real Time - PCR lab
    July 2003 --- November 2005
