  • FNRS Research Fellow
    Since September 2014
    I was called to work on a project investigating the neural correlates of mental effort, with a combination of EEG, fMRI, MRS, and pupillometry, in the CoActions Lab directed by prof Etienne Olivier, under the supervision of Dr Alexandre Zénon.

Past Experience

  • FSR and EC Marie Curie Co-Fund Research Fellow
    September 2012 --- August 2014
    With the support of Martin Edwards (Psy-NAPS group, Psychological Sciences Research Institute), I wrote and obtained an FSR and EC Marie Curie Co-Fund Research Fellowship (2012-2014). The project goal is to provide phantom limb amputees with a brain-computer interface driven virtual limb positioned in the place of the amputated limb (to create a mirror therapy to relieve pain). We are currently extending the project to include neurofeedback training and robot prosthesis for rehabilitation of patients with a hemiparesis. During these two years, I have also supervised students and helped in organizing the 2014 international meeting of the RIO group, for which I was responsible of logistic and sponsor seeking.

  • Assistant Researcher
    March 2009 --- August 2012
    I wrote and obtained a grant of € 40000 to develop an auditory brain-computer interface for completely paralysed patients with ALS. I have worked on this project initially as a PhD student, and subsequently as a post-doc. I was supervised by Prof. Niels Birbaumer and Prof. Christoph Braun.

    I was employed in several different positions: lab assistant; teaching assistant (having almost one hundred hours of classes); examination assistant (in charge of the oral examinations of three different courses), and lab coordinator. For three years I served as coordinator of the master’s course organized by the lab’s chair, Prof. Olivetti Belardinelli. I was involved in several research projects, mainly on human factors, disability and assistive technology. Two of these projects were part of my bachelor and master thesis, the latter supported by a scholarship granted to students collaborating with a foreign university (University of Maryland, USA).

    For several years, I have been a board member of the company, working occasionally on several projects. For CSF, I have: developed, standardized and administered tests for public competitive examinations (PCE); conceived and designed the website, which was the first one in Italy to host online applications for PCEs; been in charge of quality control; supported the design of the automated document optical character reading standardized process.

    January 2008 --- July 2009
    I was invited by the brain-computer interface group to join them and support the EU STReP FP7 Smart Homes for All (SM4All) project. I investigated the user requirements for the integration of neuroprostheses and home automation systems, and I wrote substantial parts of two Deliverables.

  • Special Education Teacher
    January 2008 --- December 2008
    The SSIS were the pre-reform schools intended to train teachers of lower and upper secondary schools. For this school, I held a course on “The use of technology” dedicated to teachers working with disabled students.
