Scientist with a longstanding interest in molecular cell biology, especially (but not limited to) all things concerning nucleic acids (e.g. genomics, gene expression regulation, epigenetics).In my various positions I applied my knowledge and interest in diverse themes; cardiology, molecular virology and cancer metabolism. Striving for the best results whilst enjoying doing so by empowering team-spirit and creative as well as critial thought.


Current Experience

  • Postdoctoral Research Fellow
    Since January 2014
    • Project 1: Translational study of a qPCR for a breast cancer prognostic gene expression signature. Design and set up of a custom Taqman qPCR gene-expression panel. Processed samples from a human breast cancer cohort. Studies were performed in collaboration with academic and industry partners. • Project 2: Role of acidosis in tumor development. Genomics and proteomics studies using in vitro models, analysis of whole transcriptome RNA-seq data. • Responsible for department’s laboratories for molecular biology. Organize and manage lab infrastructure. Provide consultation to principal investigators and other scientific staff of various groups within the IREC institute. Provide hands-on training for various molecular biology / biochemistry technologies to support staff, Post-Docs, PhD students, and monitored day to day activities. • Supervised students

Past Experience

  • Postdoctoral Research Fellow
    April 2010 --- June 2013
    • In a mixed team of biologists, engineers and clinicians I conducted research on the pathophysiology of hereditary cardiac diseases. Performed functional studies on in vitro and in vivo (mouse) models by gene and protein expression analyses, microscopy and in vivo characterization by echocardiography, ECG and metabolism analyses. • Set up of next generation sequencing (Roche 454) methodology in the laboratory and genetic screening of large patient panels for identification of new candidate genes. Created and validated the screening panel for genes involved in calcium homeostasis and screened a 150+ patient-panel for arrythmogenic ventricular cardiomyopathy. • Contributed to the creation of knock-in mouse models.

    January 2005 --- March 2010
    • Studies on promoters of cardiovascular genes. Identified promoters and generated reporter constructs for various genes. Identified sequence motifs and modules yielding cardiac specific expression and modulating the response to electrical signaling. • Performed functional studies of two previously uncharacterized mitochondrial genes. • Performed screening for regulatory SNPs in promoters of cardiac-specific genes. • Supervised 4 undergraduate students for Bachelor and Master thesis projects.
