I am a recent master graduate in biochemistry & biotechnology and I am  looking for a practical starting function with responsability preferably in the biopharmaceutical- and/or agroscience industry. I have a strong interest and working knowledge in applied & fundamental research concerning plants, microorganisms & pharmaceuticals. I am a hands-on person with a strong motivation and commitment to improve and broaden my expertise with conventional and new molecular biological-genetical methods, techniques and machinery. I would like to contribute in a technical manner to innovative research in the above mentioned fields

    Master thesis research project : Design and implementation of a in vivo protein - protein interaction sensor in the opportunistic fungus Candida albicans. 

    Aim : Produce recombinant Candida albicans strains expressing fragments of a genetically splitted green fluorescent protein (GFP) fused C-terminally to target genes. Test whether the target proteins interact with one another by fluorescence microscopy. If target proteins interact, the fused GFP fragments recombine and reconstitute a native-like GFP. The target proteins can then be localized to a cellular compartment, in which the interaction takes place,  by fluorescence microscopy. 

  • Student scientific Researcher KU Leuven
    February 2013 --- April 2013

    Master research internship in the laboratory for neuronal networks and regeneration (KU Leuven). Confocal microscopic analysis of retinal ganglion cell degeneration provoked by N-methyl-D-aspartate injection of mouse retinas - a glaucoma model. 

    Duties: Dissection of wholemount mouse retinas - immunohistochemical staining of Brn3a (a retinal ganglion cell-specific marker) - visualization of the Brn3a marker by confocal laser scanning fluorescence microscopy - Producing high quality images of retinal ganglion cell population in retinas via Brn3a - Digital counting of retinal ganglion cells via Axiovision.
